Easy Street Last Thursday

Last Thursday (6 Sept. '07) night at Easy St. was off the chain (Fantastic). The lineup included: Tonya Leeks, Kenny "Doc" Reid, John Bush, Walter Henderson, Andy Walker, Ben Alexander and a rare surprise appearance by The One And Only Reggie Porter. Everyone was in rare form. Reggie Porter, Oh My God!!! He started of a little on the slow lounge lizard side, but when we did Take The A Train ( I believe) as a swing, all bets were off. From then on, Reggie played like the Reggie we know he is. It was a magical and spiritual night. You need to be there. Easy Street, 307 W7th St. Little Rock, AR.

Stamp Out Smoking Show

Well I co-hosted the Stamp Out Smoking Show this Thursday with a friend of mine, Radio. Radio is a local comedian, need I say more. There were a couple of things I had planned for the show, but I allowed time to get away from me, but next week, we do it again. I did record the show and I will try to make it available some way. So next week, be sure to tune in for the Thursday Morning Variety Jazz Venue from 9 AM 'til Noon and the Stamp Out Smoking Show immediately after from Noon 'til 1. Let's have some fun, shall we.

Ben Belinga's African Jazz

I found out about this musician through my MySpace page. Yet another example of the internet community at work. Played a couple of tracks from the new CD African Jazz Live by Ben Belinga. Didn't get andy calls, but I really like it. I will feature the whole CD over the next couple of weeks so be sure and listen into the show. If you heard it or will listen to it when I play it, please post a comment. To Belinga"s MySpace page.

On The Jena 6

I originally set this blog up for music and that is still what it is about. I preference with the proceeding statement because I feel a need to inform you about the occurrences in Jena, Louisiana. To get an overview of The Story click here. There is a petition to raise awareness among our politicians. There is a You Tube video of a support gathering for the Jena 6. Michael Vick has gotten so much more coverage it is sickening. Please check out the information, form an opinion and act. Well let me get off my soapbox.

Jeff Lorber's new joint

I had gotten word of the new Jeff Lorber CD through a magazine. Then I went on Amazon to give it a listen, oh my goodness it is on fire. I have been a fan of Jeff Lorber from when I first heard about him. Through him I came to know Kenny Gorlick, aka Kenny G. He also had another saxophonist with him by the name of Dennis Springer who was no joke. As soon as I can make myself spend the money to get the CD I will play it on the air.

dee Brown

Did a wonderful interview with dee Brown this past Thursday (May 3rd) on the phone. I really like his album and he is taking care of business. He called my back after the interview to discuss how things went. Then he sent me an internet message to follow up on that. My only regret is the quality of the recording. My voice was too loud and his was too low. It wasn't a conscious thing, but now I believe I got the process down a little better. I still got the phone interview with Gerald Albright with George "Scooter" Mitchell in the studio, that one is cool. I will make them available in a month or so. Stay tuned.
